Folklore Short Story: Wulan

Once upon a time, there is a legend said a princess will come down from the sky at the middle of the night to playing and singing at the field. Her name is Wulan, a beautiful woman with a kind heart. One night, she comes as usual to playing and singing at the field at the middle of night to avoid from being seeing by human. Unfortunately, while she is singing, a married couple, Mak Puteh and Pak Tam heard her and remember about the legend that been told to them by their ancestor, quickly Pak Tam took the shawl that enables her to fly. Dawn is coming near, she can’t go home and she’s upset. Mak Puteh that knows everything took Wulan back to their house and introduced Wulan to Jamal, Mak Puteh and Pak Tam son. While staying there, Wulan told Mak Puteh,Pak Tam and Jamal, if she cooks the rice, don’t open the cover of pot. Jamal, Pak Tam and Mak Puteh just nodding without ask her further. After that, Pak Tam and Mak Puteh go out to harvest the paddy but unfortunately, Pak Tam was stung by a snake cause him near to death and he last wish is Jamal and Wulan married. A year later on, they got twins, Melati and Cempaka. They lived happily there. One day, when Wulan and her daughters clean the house, Cempaka found a beautiful shawl and Melati want it. Wulan saw the shawl and wondering why her shawl is there but she just ignored it because she in love with her family. As time goes by, Jamal become more curious about what Wulan said before, he entered the kitchen and opens the cover of pot. He taken aback what he saw, Wulan only cook one part of the pack of rice and turn it to whole pack of rice. Wulan saw what her husband have done, she disappointed. She grabs the shawl and goes back to her house at the sky, leaving her family.

Family life in the United States

In the United States, family life is change; back on several years ago the wife was called a “housewife.” She done everything meanwhile the husband is out working and didn’t see the children very much. However, today more women work outside and no longer with the children because too tired and refuse to do job. Sharing the housework is the solution to solve the problem. They take turn doing each job. For example, the wife cooks dinner on some nights and the husband cooks dinner on the other nights. About the children, many families got help from grandparents to child care, but today most of families don’t live closed by. Besides, parents always pay for babysitter or others but it’s too expensive. Nowadays, company let people with children work part- time, indirectly parents have more time with the children. In the United States, they are called “househusband.” Through these changes, everyone can have a better understanding of each other.

Reflection Blog

Based on the movie that I already watched, which is Ratatouille movie; voice by Patton Ostwald. This movie about a rat named Remy that had a highly develop sense and smell also loves to cook. Remy get inspired and learn to cook from “Anyone Can Cook” book, written by a famous chef Gusteau at Paris. One day, Remy slipped down from the roof and enters the kitchen. He met a young man name, Linguini that doesn’t know to cook. Since that day, they become a good friend. Linguini knows about Remy talent used it to cover his weakness. Until one day, a man that known as Anton Ego or Grim Eater, who work as food criticize come to Gusteau Restaurant to try the food and slowly the secret is revealed. After Anton Ego knew about the secret, he resigned and invested a small restaurant which belongs to Linguini and Remy known as Ratatouille.

If I were the main character of this movie, I ‘m absolutely would do the same thing because it doesn’t matter who you are, if you passion about something, you have to get it. In this case, Remy had a passion about cooking. Despite, Remy knows he is a rat, he still continued cooking. For him, cooking is an art. In fact, it must be hard to hold yourself from doing something that you like the most.

 Plagiarism can be defined as steal or copying someone else’s ideas and pretend that the idea is yours. Today, there is lot of reasons why plagiarism is happened among college students. The reason it happened because student is lazy to do their assignment. In fact, their just simply copy and paste other people job on the internet and claim it theirs. Besides, they got influenced by others friends. For example is the student see what his friends do it and think it as the easiest and faster way to do the assignment. Other than that, laws that not very rigid in the college is the reason it happened. For instance is lecturer see what the student do but just simply gives a warning again and again without giving a real punishment. As the whole, there is lot of reasons why plagiarism is happened among college students.

Nowadays, tourism industry in Sabah begins to get a foreigner attention as well as local people. There is so many way how to boost tourism industry in Sabah. The first way how to boost tourism industry is promote Sabah through an electronic media such as television, radio and Internet. Through these electric media, it can make other people noticed and recognize about Sabah. The second way is lower the price of ticket airlines so foreigner people can enjoy the flora and fauna environments that Sabah had for a generation such as Mount Kinabalu. The third way is to enhance the facilities and lodging so the foreigner people or local people can enjoy their trip in a convenience way. Directly, become a loyal guest to visit Sabah in the future. As the conclusion, there is many way how to boost tourism industry in Sabah.

Mechanics/ Grammar

In writing, the common mistake that I always do is the application of the grammar. I understand the basic of grammar such as Simple Present Tense and Simple Past Tense but when come to Present Perfect Tense and the others I get confused with the Simple Present Tense and Simple Past Tense. In my mind, should I use a Present Tense or Present Perfect Tense when come to make sentences? I find that writing in English can be difficult because I need to use a proper grammar so the meaning and the structure of the sentences are delivered well. The first problem that I face when I start writing is I confuse which a correct grammar that I need to use when I writing. My suggestion to overcome the problem is more practice and read English articles, because through it I can learn and improved my grammar.

Water pollution

Recently, water pollution becomes a hot issue among our society and clearly giving a negatives impact for all people include marine creatures. Negative impact that we can see is water pollution causing aquatic lives and their habitats are destroy. The condition of the water that very ugly causing the aquatic lives and their habitat are demolish easily. Next, the negative impact that we can see also is causing a diseases for people especially for children when their playing near the river or ocean that already polluted. Examples of diseases that happen are diarrhea, dizzy, nauseous and more. Last but not least, the negative impact that happened also is our country image is terrible in the eyes of the world. Foreign people will think us as an irresponsible people because allowed the water pollution happen easily. As the conclusion, water pollution causing a negative impact for all living creatures.

Writting process ( topic sentences, supporting sentences and conclusion)

Writing process can be divided into several stages. As we know, it started with topic sentences, supporting sentences and concluding sentences. For a topic sentence, it must begin by using the main point from the prompt. For instance is “write about your favorite sport”. So, it should be “My favorite sport is badminton”.

Then, continue it by three supporting sentences for the topic. The example of supporting sentences is “It easy to play”. “Playing badminton is lots of fun.” “Through badminton, I become healthier”.

Once it done, write more detail for each of the three reason or supporting sentences. For example is “Badminton is easy to play; it doesn’t need a lot of people to play it such as football or rugby that requires 10 above people to play it. Playing badminton is lots of fun, especially when I smash hard the white shuttle and got high scores. I feel great. Through badminton sport also I become healthier; I lost 3 kilos in 5 weeks just playing badminton”.

When it’s done go on to concluding sentence. Finish with a sentence that restates the topic sentence using different words. For example is “ badminton is the best sport that I ever play”.

Writting process

Writing process can be divided into five stages which are pre – writing, drafting, revising, editing and the last is publishing. At the first stage, which is a pre- writing, it can be said as a main idea that you would like to explore, and then begin to collecting information. At second stage, drafting is necessary. As you write, make sure to referring back the note that been written at the first stage. During this stage, organizing the information logically and ensure to develop the topic with details. The third stage is revising. Revising is important because it can help the writer to check if the purpose is clearly stated or not. During revision, consider the revision from reader’s point of view. The fourth stage is editing. Editing can be said as focuses on making the writing much better in terms of grammar, sentence structure, spelling and more. The last stage is publishing. It can be said as releasing the writing to the public for others to read.

my favorite food

My favorite food is Malaysian food, especially when it served by My Kitchen restaurant that located nearby 1Borneo Hypermall. The reason why I’m in love with Malaysian food is because of the aroma. The aroma that Malaysian food had extremely can make my appetite growing instantaneously such as is rendang. It definitely brings a mouth- watering to me. The second reason is because of the flavor of Malaysian food had is very unique. For an example is laksa, it’s quite unique because it had 2 combination of flavors which are sour and spicy but still taste delicious. The third reason why I like Malaysian food is because of the texture of the food. Most of the texture of Malaysian food is very tender, juicy and eatable for instance, is satay. As the conclusion, my favorite food is Malaysian food which had a grand aroma, flavor and texture.

What is love to you?

 In dictionary, love is defined as a feeling of great fondness for a person or thing. It’s definitely true and there is nothing wrong or doubt about the definition, but as a human that has feeling and experience, my definition of love are universal and complex. It hard to understand but can be figure out slowly. It’s a feeling that can make people smile out from ear to ear and crying like the world is ended.

Why is love universal? It universal because out there, there is a lot of types love that scattered in our world. For instance, love for your parents, siblings, friends, husband, animal, nature and not forget to mention also the most important is love for God. It’s just not a boyfriend and girlfriend. The meaning of love can be greater and deeper than we think actually.

In terms of complex, it’s complex because it involves feeling of people. As we know, dealing with feeling can be hard to understand. In fact, it’s not a mathematics question that can be solved by formulas, theory or anything. In my opinion, love is a greatest creation of God that can inspire a person to do better and be better for a person that we love the most.

Other than love are universal and complex, my definition of love also is inspiring, especially to the person that you love the most. You will do anything to ensure that he or she safe, comfortable and the most important feel appreciated.

As the conclusion, I think love can be defined as universal, complex and inspiring. I can’t think of anything to say or anything else.
